The EU blue card will be added to the German residence law in the form of legislation

The full name of EU blue card is Blaue Karte EU, which originates from the 2009 / 50 / EC technical talent introduction directive of the EU, which aims to attract highly educated people from all over the world to move to EU countries. The directive was officially promulgated on May 25, 2009. Germany responded to this directive in 2012 and added the EU blue card to the German residence law (aufenthaltsgesetz - aufenthg) in the form of legislation, so that non EU citizens can move to Germany conveniently and unrestricted when they have recognized academic qualifications and qualifications.


1Core conditions applicable to blue card

1. Bachelor degree or above recognized by Germany with certain working experience

2. The salary income of the applicant must meet the blue card standard

The second is the salary requirement for applying for blue card, which is about 1.5 times the average salary in Germany. The latest standard in 2020 is that the annual income reaches 55200 euros (before tax). The salary standard of some scarce occupations can be reduced to 1.2 times, such as natural scientists, mathematicians, engineers, doctors or senior IT experts.

2Validity of blue card

The maximum validity period of the blue card issued for the first time is 4 years. If the applicant's employment contract is less than 4 years when submitting the application, the validity period of the blue card is an additional three months on the basis of the employment contract.

3. Permanent residence conditions of blue card

Blue card holders can apply for permanent residence after staying in Germany for 33 months and paying individual income tax and social security according to law, and having the most basic level of German (A1 standard); If you can reach the general level of German (B1 Standard), the time for applying for permanent residence can be advanced to 21 months.

4. Residence permits for spouses and their children

The spouse of the blue card holder and his minor children have the right to apply for a residence permit without providing any proof of German language. In addition, both can work or receive education in Germany without restrictions.
